NRB Crashes Dividend Plan of Nepal Bank

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has directed Nepal Bank (NBL) to maintain required regulatory reserve before distributing dividend to its shareholders.  Nepal Bank that was planning to distribute attractive dividend to its shareholders after 22 years will have to once again let down its investors due to NRB direction.

After the implementation of NFRS, banks are required to maintain a certain percentage of its profit as a regulatory reserve. Due to the provision, Nepal Bank has to decline its dividend plan for now.

Narayan Prasad Poudel, Spokesperson of Nepal Bank said that the central bank has directed all banks to maintain regulatory reserve that implies with Nepal Bank too. The bank will later decide whether to distribute dividend or not after maintaining the required regulatory reserve, he added.

Similarly, Devendra Pratap Shah, CEO of Nepal Bank informed that the central bank has not approved its balance sheet, thus, it is not yet confirmed about the dividend.
