NRB Gives Preliminary Approval to Global IME and Janata Bank for Merger

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has given principal approval to Global IME Bank (GBIME) and Janata Bank (JBNL) for merger.

The central bank gave the approval on September 19 and directed them to start joint transaction within three months.

Global IME and Janata Bank signed the merger agreement on July 5 following the stimulus of NRB for merger through monetary policy.

The combined entity will have Chandra Dhakal, existing Chairman of Global IME Bank as the Chairman while the post of CEO will be held by Parshuram Kunwar Chettri, existing CEO of Janata Bank.

The banks have agreed on initial swap ratio of 100:85 of Global IME and Janata Bank for the merger, however, it will be finalized after DDA report.
