Fuel carrier truck drivers back to work

The agitating fuel carrier truck drivers have resumed their work since Tuesday after an agreement was reached at the initiative of the Nepal Oil Corporation. The agreement has addressed the demand of the drivers to acknowledge the difference in the quantity of fuel due to difference in temperature at the time of filling and emptying.

In the presence of NOC officials, the Nepal Petroleum Transport Entrepreneurs Federation and the Nepal Transport Workers Association, Aviation Fuel Transportation Unit Committee representatives signed on the agreement. Following the agreement, the truck drivers returned back to work from Tuesday.

As per the agreement a committee shall be formed with representation of both the parties in order to address the demands of the drivers. The demand will be addressed within a month. The drivers had stopped transporting aviation fuel in protest against the double fine imposed by the NOC for loss of more than 50 liters of fuel from the truck in course of the transportation.

Currently, 181 tankers are ferrying aviation fuel from the Indian Oil Corporation to Nepal. A locking system was imposed in order to stop leakage during the transportation of fuel, but it has not been fully successful.
