NRB to Grant Mobile Money License to Joint Venture of NT and RBB

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has made final preparations to allow the payment service provider company being operated under a joint investment of Nepal Telecom Company (Nepal Telecom) and Rastriya Banijya Bank.

The companies sought permission for the Mobile Money Service one month ago. The service is said to have different features and services from the existing mobile payment service.

NRB has stated that it will provide the license to the company in the near future.

Chintamani Shiwakoti, Deputy Governor of NRB said that the licensing process to the company has reached in final stage. He added that the service is of a different kind and will keep other similar companies to the toes.

The mobile money services being provided by the company named ‘Nepal Digital company Ltd’ will have different features and services.

The company that has an authorized capital of Rs 1 billion has 62 percent investment from Telecom and 38 percent from Rastriya Banijya Bank.

Dilliram Adhikari, Managing Director of Nepal Telecom said that the company will cater mobile money service within a month of receiving the license from NRB. Given that the service is one of its kind, it will attract a huge crowd, said Adhikari.
