Has the time finally arrived when five hundred thousand driver’s license holders of Nepal can throw the receipt they got during their license renewal.

As the Department of Transportation Management (DoTM) is set to resume driving license printing from today, those service seekers can finally get their smart license in the coming days.

The DoTM is starting printing the driver’s license following the delivery of 1.4 million units of smart cards one month ago by Selp SSL, a French company.

Previously, the printing was suspended due to the shortage of smart cards caused by the pandemic.

As per Santosh Pokharel, an engineer in DoTM, the printing will start at 3 pm Today. He informed that Renu Kumari Yadav, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transportation will inaugurate a program after which printing will be started.

Pokharel said that the design and format of the smart license will be different and updated in terms of tech friendliness than the previous version.

The license printing was suspended as the French company delayed the delivery of the smart card. The data of DoTM shows that nearly 500,000 service seekers are heading the road with a receipt of license renewal.

In the first phase, service seekers who are waiting for years will be provided the license followed by newly license holders.
