By the month of Chaitra of the current FY, the government obtained Rs 3.79 billion in capital gain tax (CGT) from the stock market. The earnings increased by 96.74 percent compared to Rs 1.92 billion of the corresponding period of the last FY.
Both investors and the government recorded good earnings in the months. In Chaitra, stock investors earned a profit of Rs 75.80 billion from the market based on the CGT paid by them. The investors paid Rs 3.79 billion in CGT including Rs 790 million by long-term investors and Rs 2.43 billion by short-term investors. Similarly, institutional investors paid Rs 450 million in CGT. Based on the CGT paid, long-term investors earned Rs 17.94 billion, short-term earned Rs 32.52 billion and institutional investors earned Rs 4.53 billion in Chaitra.
Compared to Falgun, the CGT increased by 10 percent in Chaitra. The overall CGT earned in Chaitra stands at Rs 483.4 million which is Rs 440 million in Falgun.
In Chaitra, institutional investors paid 20.98 percent more and short-term investors paid 13 percent more CGT compared to Falgun. Meanwhile, the CGT paid by long-term investors declined by 4.67 percent.
