Import of Smartphones Increases Despite Decrease in Overall Imports

In the last nine months of the current FY, the import of smartphones has increased as per the data published by the Customs Department.

By the month of Chaitra, Nepal imported 1,391,845 units of smartphones from 61 countries. The number of countries however declined to 61 from previously 68 countries.

Nepal imported most of the smartphones from China and India. It imported more than 1 milion units of smartphones from China followed by India. India exported 378,000 units of smartphones to Nepal during the period.

In terms of monetary value, the imported phones amount to Rs 21.75 billion. The value increased by 16.54 percent compared to Rs 18.66 billion of the review period of the last FY.

Meanwhile, the government earned revenue of Rs 4.04 billion through the import. The revenue earned increased by 16.24 percent compared to Rs 3.48 billion of the last FY.
