NPL of 4 Banks Exceeds 5%, Only 1 Bank Manages to Bring Down NPL in Q2

In the second quarter of the current FY, out of twenty commercial banks, nineteen have logged an increase in non-performing loan (NPL). Everest Bank is the only bank that managed to bring down its NPL during the period.

As per published second quarter reports of the bank, the NPL of the banks increased to 4.49 percent from 3.40 percent. the NPL increased by 1.09 percent during the period.

Among the banks, Kumari Bank has the highest NPL of 6.96 percent. In the corresponding period of the last FY, the bank had logged 4.97 percent NPL. Similarly, Nepal Investment Mega Bank, Laxmi Sunrise Bank and Prabhu Bank’s NPL has also increased above 5 percent.

Meanwhile, NIC Asia Bank records the highest jump in NPL. The bank that logged 1.19 percent NPL in the review period of the last FY pens 4.61 percent in the review period of the current FY.
