Nepal had made a total of Rs 1941.60 billion in foreign trade during the period. However, there is huge imbalance between export and import which has resulted in increasing trade deficit of the country.
As per the data, Nepal imported goods worth Rs 1,692.64 billion from different countries during the period. This is an increase of about 15% (14.82%) compared to the same period of last FY. The increase in the rate of import makes it clear that the Nepali market is still heavily dependent on foreign goods. On the other hand, Nepal has been able to export goods worth Rs 248.96 billion in the same period. Although, exports grew by 14 percent compared to last FY, this growth is very small in front of the huge size of imports.
As a result, the trade deficit has reached Rs 1443.67 billion by the period. The deficit has increased by about 15 percent compared to the last FY, which has further increased the pressure from the external sector on the country's economy.
