Power export to India increased upto 1,650 megawatts

The meetings of the Joint Steering Committee (JSC) and the Joint Working Group (JWG) on Power Sector Cooperation (JSC) between India and Nepal concluded on Wednesday in Pokhara, agreeing to export power up to 1,650 megawatts from Nepal.

The 13th meeting of the Joint Steering Committee on Power Sector Cooperation (JSC) was co-chaired by Nepal's Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Secretary Sarita Dawadi and India's Secretary of Ministry of Power Pankaj Agarwal.

As per the agreement on Combined Power Transfer, energy export from Nepal to India will be increased to 1650 megawatts from the existing 1,100 megawatts, while imports from India to Nepal will be increased to 1,400 megawatts from 1,000 megawatts through the Dhalkebar-Mujjafurpur and the Dhalekbar-Sitamadhi cross border transmission lines, according to the Ministry of Energy, Water Resource and Irrigation.

It is said that the meetings reviewed bilateral power sector cooperation between India and Nepal, including the development of hydropower projects, power trade and transmission infrastructure.

During the meetings, both sides discussed ways to expedite and facilitate the implementation of ongoing and envisaged power generation and transmission projects. (RSS)
