Committee formed to hold talks with microfinance victims

Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has formed a committee, led by the Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Mahesh Acharya, to hold talks with the protesting microfinance victims.

According to the ministerial decision made today, the members of the talks committee include the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Binod Kumar Bhattarai, the Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Suresh Panthi, and the Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank, Ramu Paudel.

Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Bolraj Acharya, is the member secretary of the negotiation committee.

Finance Minister Wagle has instructed the committee to meet with the microfinance victims today itself.

Last week, microfinance victims from several districts came to Kathmandu with various demands.

They have called for an end to financial exploitation by microfinance institutions, for loans to be made available to farmers at minimum interest rates, and for land lost in auctions or write-off processes to be returned, among other demands.(RSS)
