WorldLink Begins Settlement of Long-Pending Electricity Pole Rent Arrears

The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has made significant headway in recovering long-overdue electricity pole rental fees, with internet service provider WorldLink Communications officially initiating its payment process through the Bagmati Province Divisional Office of NEA’s Distribution and Customer Service Directorate.

For the fiscal year 2082/83, WorldLink has started clearing its dues based on self-declared usage, deducting applicable taxes. For the previous fiscal year (2081/82), payments were adjusted following a joint physical verification of installed poles and DB boxes. The company noted that previous double payments were also factored into the final accounting settlement.

Welcoming the move, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha commended WorldLink’s step as a positive precedent and urged other internet service providers to fulfill their legal financial obligations promptly.

Minister Shrestha emphasized that the government remains committed to fair, non-discriminatory, and strict enforcement of the law. "Operational challenges encountered during implementation will be addressed strictly within legal boundaries," Shrestha stated, warning against attempts to politicize the issue or create public confusion. He reiterated that statutory regulations apply equally to all market participants.
