The financing milestone involves two major consortia led by prominent Nepali commercial banks:
-
Tila-2 Hydropower Project: A consortium of 11 financial institutions, led by Everest Bank, signed an investment agreement with promoter Urja Tila Power Company. The project operates on a 75:25 debt-to-equity ratio, securing Rs 52.55 billion in loan financing. Designed as a peaking project with a daily capacity of 6 hours, construction is slated for completion within four years.
-
Tila-1 Hydropower Project: Promoted by SC Power Company, this project secured backing from a 13-member banking consortium led by NMB Bank. The 440 MW capacity installation carries an estimated total cost of Rs 59.40 billion to develop a peaking capacity of 298 MW. Electricity generation is target-dated for Poush 2087 BS.
Both installations feature peaking run-of-river designs, positioning them to play a critical role in managing grid stability and smoothing power supply across Nepal's national grid during peak demand hours. According to project officials, equity financing will include share allocations reserved for local residents, domestic retail investors, and the general public.
