Traders shifted their operations to the alternative Mustang transit route after severe flooding on August 24 destroyed the Rasuwagadhi customs office, while the Tatopani border point was shut down due to high landslide risks.
With the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals driving demand, pressure at the Korala checkpoint has surged significantly. Authorities report that an average of more than 50 empty containers head toward Korala daily via Mustang to bring in goods.
To manage the heavy influx of trade, the Department of Customs has deployed six additional personnel to the Mustang Customs Office, bringing the total staff strength to 18, which includes officers and plant quarantine inspectors.
The Korala border point officially came into operation as an alternative trading route in 2082 BS. During the last fiscal year, over 3,000 electric vehicles were imported through the checkpoint, generating approximately Rs 7 billion in revenue. In the first month of the current fiscal year alone, the transit point has already collected Rs 290 million in revenue.
