According to a press release issued today by NTA Spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal, the penalty was enacted under Section 47 (1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2053 BS, following comprehensive inspections and inquiries conducted by the regulatory body.
In addition to the monetary fines, the NTA has issued stringent directives to protect consumer rights. Service providers have been explicitly ordered to provide full compensation to any customers who suffered losses due to services operated in contradiction of official permissions.
Furthermore, the telecommunications regulator has ordered an immediate halt to all internet packages and fee structures that were implemented without prior authorization from the Authority. ISPs must formally report these unauthorized packages to the NTA. Looking ahead, the regulatory body has warned all telecommunication operators that any future introduction of packages or pricing structures will require strict prior approval, emphasizing the mandatory compliance with prevailing acts, rules, and licensing conditions.
