According to the Council's member and National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timalsina, the meeting has unanimously recommended Rana for this highest post in the Supreme Court.
The meeting of Judicial Council had recommended Deepak Raj Joshi and Cholendra Shumsher Rana to the Constitutional Council for the same post.
The Constitution stipulates that the President shall appoint the Chief Justice after the Constitutional Council recommends the name for appointment, as per the Article 129 of the Constitution of Nepal.
Although Joshi was rejected to the post of Chief Justice by through a parliamentary hearing some months back, his name figured in the recommendation by the Judicial Committee again.
Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra is retiring due to age limit on December-end.
