Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank to invest Rs 10 Bn in Upper Trishuli 1

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the China-backed institution has approved loan of USD 90 million i.e. Rs 10 billion to develop 216 MW Upper Trishuli 1 hydropower project. This is the first loan of AIIB to Nepal.

The 216MW Upper Trishuli 1 Hydropower Project is being developed under build-own-operate-transfer model. The project is partially funded by International Finance Corporation and Asian Development Bank as well.

The project is promoted by Korean company Nepal Water and Energy Development Company. The company has already made PPA with Nepal Electricity Authority in USD. According to the agreement, NEA will purchase the electricity at Rs 8.40 per unit in dry season and at Rs 4.80 per unit in rainy season.
