Construction of drinking water processing centre under Melamchi Drinking Water Project has reached its final phase.

A water tank has already been constructed at Sundarijal, which would process 170 million litres a day, while construction of another water tank would be concluded soon as it has reached to a final phase. The capacity of the centre is 80.5 million litres.

Of the two water tanks—one has been constructed with financial assistance of JICA while another with financial support of Asian Development Bank, said Information Officer at Melamchi Drinking Water Development Committee, Rajendra Prasad Pant.

According to him, the tank constructed with JICA funding has been already complete while the tank being constructed under ADB funding has come to a final stage.

The contracting period for the tanker under construction however was expired last month.

"All the works would be completed within next 2-3 months", Pant added.

The project has advanced tunnel construction, headwork and processing centre construction as part of the project. Earlier, the government had signed a contract for the construction of tunnel and headwork.
