Government spent Rs 100.66 bn budgetary expense, collect Rs 52 bn in Lockdown

The government has spend Rs 166 billion of budgetary expenses while has collected Rs 52.29 billion in revenue during the lockdown. As per Office of Auditor General, the government spent nearly 10.85 percent and collected revenue of 4.70 percent during the lockdown.

Due to the ongoing pandemic COVID-19, the country is in lockdown since the last two months. During the period, major development projects have been halted due to which both capital expenditure and revenue collection is unsatisfactory.

As per the data of Office of Auditor General, the company collected Rs 52.22 billion in revenue collection and spent Rs 13.29 billion in revenue.

During the two months period, the government earned a total of Rs 61.17 billion in income and spent Rs 166.13 billion. The average income of the government stands at Rs 870 million and average capital expenditure stands at Rs 221.6 million daily in the lockdown.

Similarly, the government has collected revenue of Rs 616 billion by May 24 of the current FY. It is merely 55 percent of the target of Rs 1112 billion set by the government for the current FY.

At this point of time, import of all goods except essentials has been banned. All economical activities are paused and development projects are halted due to which revenue collection is low.
