Bank deposits increased by 22 Bn, loan extensions zero in Asadh 3rd week

Commercial banks have not been able to extend a single loan in the third week of Asadh as well due to the ongoing lockdown implemented by the government to curb the spread of COVID-19.

As the government has somewhat loosened the lockdown, banks have expected to increase their loans and investment, however, it did not happen. The loan extension which decreased by Rs 5 billion in the first week of Asadh decreased by Rs 2 billion in the second week.

As per the statistics of Nepal Bankers Association, during the period their deposit collections have increased by Rs 22 billion. By Asadh 19, commercial banks recorded a deposit collection of Rs 3324 billion and loan extension of Rs 2809 billion.

In the corresponding period of the last FY, such deposit collections were Rs 2793 billion and loan extension of Rs 2476 billion.
