According to Kumar Pandey, Chairman of National Hydropower, the flood has caused minimal damage to the powerhouse, dam, tunnel and other structures of the project, but, it’s 3-4 transmission lines have been washed away.
"We are analyzing, however, our structure has not been affected much," he said. ‘A report says that 3-4 towers have been washed away due to mixing of Indrawati River with Melamchi, but, that is not a huge cost,” he added.
He said that the washing away of the transmission line may affect the operation but nothing like that the project has been stalled due to the flood.
The flood has also washed away the residential camps of Melamchi Drinking Water Project. Some workers are said to be out of contact. Rescue and search operations are underway with the help of the Nepal Army, Police, Armed Police Force and locals.
