NRB Provides 11.5 Bn Interest Subsidy to 142,000 Subsidized Loans till Magh

Nepal Rastra Bank|(NRB)’s data shows that a total of 142,344 subsidized loans worth more than Rs 200 billion have been approved by the end of Magh of the current FY.

As per the data, out of Rs 250.14 billion subsidized loans Rs 214.78 billion is yet to be settled.

Nepal Rastra Bank spent Rs 11.50 billion in interest payment for the subsidized loans. In a bid to increase investment in productive sector, NRB has set a mechanism under which BFIs are required to invest a particular proportionate of their total investment in specific areas like agriculture, hydropower, small and medium-sized industries.

As per the data, 120,871 borrowers have taken subsidized loans worth Rs 217.72 billion out of which Rs 185.82 billion is yet to be paid.

BFIs are providing concessional loan to unemployed educated youths, returnee migrant workers, women entrepreneurs, Dalits, earthquake victims and other targeted groups under NRB set criteria.
