The central bank had availed the new notes to banks and financial institutions (BFIs) few days ago for distribution. The general public can now exchange the notes from today. However, in case of outer valley, they can exchange the notes from September 18 only.
Every year, the central bank makes arrangement for the exchange of new banknotes as the public hand out new notes to their near and dear ones after Dashain Tika.
The general public stands in a long queue in front of NRB and commercial banks to exchange new notes. NRB usually avails new banknotes of denominations Rs 5, Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 50 and Rs 100 during Dashain.
A member of public can exchange a maximum of Rs 18,500 at one time.
