Trade Deficit of Nepal Declines

Nepal’s trade deficit is declining with a decline in import in the current FY.

As per the data of custom department, Nepal has imported nearly 17 percent less goods and merchandise by mid-May compared to the corresponding period of the last FY.

The country imported goods and merchandise worth Rs 1.3 trillion in the review period compared to Rs 1.6 trillion of the last FY. the import declined by 16.78 percent during the period.

As a result, the trade deficit of the country has also declined. The trade deficit has declined by 15.85 percent to Rs 1.2 trillion during the period.

Along with import, its export also declined by 24.49 percent to Rs 130 Billion compared to Rs 173 billion of the last FY.

During the period, Nepal spent Rs 230 billion in importing petroleum products including petrol, diesel and LP gas. In the review period, it spent Rs 125 billion in importing diesel, Rs 55 billion in petrol and Rs 49 billion in LP gas.

Meanwhile, Nepal exported palm oil worth Rs 9.73 billion, carpet worth Rs 9.43 billion, soyabean oil worth Rs 8.46 billion and black cardamom worth Rs 7.28 billion.
