Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) listed two government bonds on Sunday.

NEPSE listed Development Bond 2086 ‘G’ that yields 6.5 percent interest having maturity period till 2086 Shrawan 19 and Development Bond 2086 ‘B’ that yield 7 percent interest having maturity period till 2088 Shrawan 29.

Despite being listed in NEPSE for trading, the government bonds are not traded in the domestic securities market because of difficulty in settlement. Although, time and again, regulatory bodies announce of initiating the process, the issue has been untouched since long.

Currently, Public Debt Management Office is responsible for initiating trading of the government bonds in the securities market.  However, right now, it is merely making payments. The office is planning to start collecting debt from coming Magh.

The office said that initially it is focusing on collection and payment of debts. It will initiate the trading in the second phase which may take time, says Dila Ram Giri, Under Secretary of the office.
