Kaligandaki corridor: 234 kilometers section blacktopped, 36 bridges built

The under-construction Gaindakot–Ramdi–Maldhunga section of the Kaligandaki Corridor, a project of national pride, has achieved 80 percent physical progress, according to project officials.

Out of the 293-kilometres stretch, 134 kilometres have been blacktopped. A total of 36 bridges have been completed, while construction on six more is in the final stages. Fiscal progress of the project (for this section) stands at 70 percent.

Launched 16 years ago in fiscal year 2066/67 BS, the Kaligandaki Corridor project's expenditure is Rs 14 billion so far, according to project engineer Utsav Basyal. The project is expected to be completed by 2083/84 BS at a total estimated cost of Rs 20 billion.

The 435-kilometre corridor highway starts in Gaindakot of Nawalpur and extends all the way to the Korola border in Mustang. The initiative aims to enhance connectivity, trade, and economic development by linking remote mountain communities with markets and healthcare services, it has been said.  (RSS)
