Auditor General's Report Shows Rs 91 billion Arrears in Rs 94 trillion worth of transactions

The annual report of the Auditor General for the fiscal year 2081/082 has been submitted to President Ram Chandra Poudel today.

According to the report published by the Office of the Auditor General, audit of a total of 5,759 bodies was completed in the fiscal year 2081/82. A total of Rs 9.462 billion worth of financial transactions including federal government offices, provincial government offices, local levels, committees and other institutions and organizations have been audited this year.

Of this, Rs 310.61 billion was audited for federal ministries and agencies, Rs 30.85 billion for provinces and Rs 1118.46 billion for local levels, according to the report.

Arrears of Rs 91.59 billion in a single year

Among the audited agencies, arrears of Rs 91.59 billion have been found in non-organized agencies this year alone. This is 1.81 percent of the total audited marks. According to the report, the arrears rate was 1.89 percent last year, which is slightly lower this year.

Of the total arrears, 32.89 percent (Rs 30.12 billion) is to be recovered, 61.27 percent (Rs 56.12 billion) is to be regulated and 5.84 percent (Rs 5.34 billion is to be advanced). Among the federal ministries, the highest arrears have been found in the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and Ministry of Defense. The Finance Ministry alone has arrears of Rs 33.71 billion, which is 70.61 percent of the total arrears of the federal ministries.

Arrears cross Rs 733 billion

According to the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General, the total updated arrears (yet to be settled) have reached Rs 733.19 billion. Such arrears stood at Rs 669.86 billion in the previous year. This year, despite settlement and adjustment, the updated arrears have increased by 14.05 percent.
