Nepal’s first commercial road tunnel, the Nagdhunga–Sisnekhola Tunnel, officially opens tonight. Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal will inaugurate the project at 10:30 PM.

The tunnel opens exclusively to emergency vehicles on its first day. Public transport and private vehicles will be introduced gradually.

Two-wheeled vehicles (motorcycles and scooters) are strictly prohibited. Traffic will operate in one direction initially.

Managed by the Yusin–ART Joint Venture under a five-year contract, the facility features an electronic toll collection system supporting cash, QR codes, and automated vehicle stickers. Toll fees range from Rs. 60 to Rs. 600 depending on the vehicle type.

The main tunnel spans 2,688 metres, while the emergency tunnel measures 2,557 metres. It is expected to handle up to 8,000 vehicles daily, significantly cutting down travel time and easing congestion along the Nagdhunga–Naubise corridor.
