The government has initiated the process to reopen Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) following a key decision by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

A meeting of the NEA Board of Directors, chaired by Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha on Thursday, decided to forward the process for issuing new PPAs.

To facilitate the move, the board formed a specialized sub-committee tasked with developing the necessary standards and criteria for PPA issuance. Led by NEA Board Member Anshu Kiran Shahi, the sub-committee has been instructed to submit its report and recommendations to the board within one week.

The newly formed committee comprises Shaligram Bhandari, Deputy Director General of the Department of Electricity Development, and Riwaj Sharma, an expert representing the Ministry of Energy. The Director of the NEA's Business Section serves as the member-secretary for the sub-committee.
