Following a joint agreement between the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, consumers can now exchange empty cooking gas cylinders of any brand for a filled cylinder of a different brand without paying any additional fees. The arrangement remains in effect from Ghatasthapana through Phulpati.
According to Diwan Chand, President of the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, the initiative was introduced to alleviate supply challenges caused by recent incessant rains, floods, landslides, and public holidays. NOC Managing Director Nagendra Shah had previously urged industry leaders to formulate a concrete solution so that households would not face fuel shortages during the holidays.
Industry representatives confirmed that the deposited empty cylinders will be sorted and managed among the concerned gas companies behind the scenes, ensuring a seamless experience for the public.
To facilitate the rollout, the association has established five primary common outlets across the valley:
-
Balaju: Nepal Gas outlet
-
Sitapaila: Everest, Sugam, and other participating companies
-
Sukedhara: Baba Gas outlet
-
Pepsicola: Sagar Gas outlet
-
Harisiddhi (Lalitpur): Shree Ram Gas center (potential)
Association officials noted that additional exchange locations could be introduced depending on consumer demand and market pressure throughout the festive period.
