At a programme organized in the capital city on Monday, Minister Bista said that the past agreements should be revised to establish the rights and facilities of the Nepali migrant workers in the destination countries adding that efforts are ongoing to sign deals with the countries for new destinations. "
"The world is getting prosperous due to labour and capital. The labour sending countries should not hesitate; they are required to deal with the destination countries with self-respect and dignity. The workers should get opportunities to work along with their decent life," he said.
He also said that only through the joint efforts of the government, private sector, civil society and stakeholders can transform the decent process for the migrant workers' recruitment. "Fair recruitment process should be brought into practice not only in foreign employment but also within the country. Irregularities are seen at home for the selection of workers. The government is seriously working to make the workers' recruiting process transparent within the country," he adds.
The way migration is increasing, the problems in it are increasing in the same proportion, Minister Bista said.
According to Bista, human smuggling and crime against humanity would be seen while the global values of the human rights have faced challenges due to failure to truly manage the migration process.
Also speaking at the programme, US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry said that it was responsibility of all stakeholders including the Nepal government to make the recruitment process of Nepali migrants ethical. USAID is supporting to make the foreign employment more systematic and stop trafficking in persons, the US Ambassador committed to support to curb trafficking in persons through the support of the government and the private sector.
On the occasion, Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) Nar Bahadur Thapa said that the proportion of remittance to the GDP has increased despite Nepal becoming the agriculture country. He, however, said that the contribution of the remittance cannot be negated in regard to poverty alleviation.
