Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Gokarna Bista, has said that the labour agreement signed between Nepal and Malaysia has provided a new dimension to the relation between the two countries.

At a press conference organised after signing MoU with his Malaysian counterpart on Monday, Minister Bista said, "The agreement signed between the two countries would further deepen relations between Nepal and Malaysia. This is a historic moment. This is very positive and a matter of happiness."

Saying this is the first time Nepal and Malaysia signed the agreement after the beginning of the practice of sending and receiving workers between Nepal and Malaysia around two decades ago, he said that the MoU would make employment sector more systematic, transparent and disciplined. 'The agreement will build environment for disciplined labour. The MoU will prove a milestone to resolve the problems facing Nepali workers in the destination country."

Expressing commitment on behalf of the government of Nepal for effective implementation of the provisions mentioned in agreement, Minister Bista urged the Malaysian government to also follow the agreement in an effective manner.

He said that Nepal and Malaysia signed the labour agreement keeping the welfare of both employee and employer in centre, adding that one willing to go Malaysia for employment need not to pay any fee henceforth.

The employer companies have to bear the amount charged by foreign employment companies in the name of service charge, stated the agreement. Similarly, the amount charged as 'medical test' and 'security clearance' would be returned within one month once the Nepali worker reaches Malaysia, added Minister Bista.

On the occasion, Minister Bista congratulated the newly elected government of Malaysia and wished for its successful term.

Similarly, Malaysian Minister M Kulasegaran said that the labour agreement has added new chapter to the history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said that the Nepali migrant workers in Malaysia would get their salary and allowance directly to their bank account on the 7th of every month.

Minister Kulasegaran expressed the commitment that the employers would provide minimum service facility and residence facility to Nepali migrant workers as per Labour law of Malaysia.
