Constitution amendment bill endorsed with unprecedented national unity

Over two-thirds of the majority in yesterday's meeting of the House of Representatives endorsed the 'Constitution of Nepal (Second Amendment) Bill, 2077 BS' presented to include Nepal's original map in the Coat-of-Arms.

Yesterday's meeting of the House of Representatives endorsed the bill proposing the incorporation of Nepal's territory including Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani that was under the siege of India for over the decades, in the new Coat-of-Arms in the Schedule 3 of the constitution.

As per the Nepal Constitution-2015, it requires two-thirds majority of the exiting members in the House of Representatives to endorse the bill. All members in the House yesterday have demonstrated unprecedented unity in the stand for nationality by voting in favour of the bill.

In yesterday's voting, a total of 258 members of the House of Representatives had participated and unanimously stood for the amendment through voice vote. The lower House has total 275 members and no vote was cast against the bill.

Earlier, the constitution saw the first amendment on 23 February 2016.

Prior to the voting yesterday, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Shivamaya Tumbahangphe had presented the constitution amendment bill which underwent clause-wise deliberation in the parliament.
