The Hyundai Ioniq 6 “provides an intriguing alternative for the EV SUV-averse,” said Cars.com Detroit Bureau Chief Aaron Bragman in his review of the electric car.
This is the second consecutive year that Hyundai has received three awards from the World Car jury; in 2022, the Ioniq 5 took home three World Car awards (which Cars.com also named our Best EV of 2023 and Top EV Pick for Families). The World Car jury consists of more than 100 automotive journalists from around the world who test-drive new and fully redesigned cars that are sold on more than one continent.
Hyundai’s sibling Kia also garnered the World Performance Car title for the 2023 EV6 GT. Cars.com reviewer Mike Hanley said of the EV, “The new GT performance version of the 2023 Kia EV6 dials up the power, handling and fun of this all-electric SUV — without breaking the bank.”
Meanwhile, Lucid broke Hyundai’s absolute stronghold on this year’s awards with its World Luxury Car win for the 2023 Lucid Air, and the 2023 Citroen C3 took home the World Urban Car award. The C3 (like all current Citroens) is not available in the U.S., however.
In March, SangYup Lee, head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design Center, was named World Car Person of the Year. Lee leads the team that designed the Ioniq 6 and the newly designed 2024 Kona. (Cars.com)
