It is stated that a team from Nepal Telecom Regional Directorate Pokhara and Nepal Telecom Jomsom Office, in coordination with Lomanthang Rural Municipality, installed the additional communication equipment on Saturday.
Nepal Telecom Jomsom had installed a BTS tower with a micro web radio link three years ago. Communication access was established at the Korala border transit point for the convenience of businessmen operating there by setting up tarpaulins and tourists visiting the place.
Although communication access was established in Korola border, communication facilities could not become reliable due to limited equipment capacity for the micro web radio link.
Nepal Electricity Authority has installed the electric poles, but the transmission line has not been put into operation. In the absence of electricity at the border, the tower was operated with the help of solar energy.
According to Hum Bahadur Bhujel, Chief of the Telecom Office at Jomsom, the phone and internet problems seen in Korala border area have been addressed by increasing the capacity of the solar-powered BTS tower.
The capacity of the batteries and solar panels has been enhanced by two-fold, Bhujel mentioned
He further informed that a technical team working in Korala border area upgraded the micro web radio link BTS tower so it can run more smoothly.
The Telecom team also increased the battery backup and the number of solar panels for both 2G and 4G BTS towers.
He added that 20 solar panels and three 150-amp (short for ampere) backup batteries were also added for effective operation of the BTS tower.
Similarly, Tashi Norbu Gurung, Chairperson of the Lomanthang rural municipality, jubilantly shared that the mobile network and internet services are available round-the-clock in his locality after the BTS tower's capacity was enhanced.
Improved 2G and 4G mobile network services in Korala border area have eased communication for local residents, traders and tourists. (RSS)
