All workers trapped in tunnel rescued safely

All 17 workers trapped in the under-construction tunnel of Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project here have been rescued safely, said chief of police in district, Bhagendra Dhakal.

Seventeen workers- 11 Nepalis and six Chinese- trapped in the tunnel closed with dry landslide last night were brought out safely within 7: 00 am this morning. Their health condition has also been examined by local medical persons.

Chief District Officer Arjun Bhandari informed that the construction works of the project were halted for today because the stone fall was still sporadic at the tunnel entry.

A joint team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force was mobilized for the rescue operation early this morning.

Earlier,  17 workers including  11 Nepalis and 6 Chinese were trapped in the under-construction tunnel of Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project last night.

The workers were trapped in the tunnel due to dry landslide last night, said chief of police in the district, Bhagendra Purush Dhakal, adding that the joint team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force was mobilized to bring out the trapped workers.

The incident occurred 28 km north of the district headquarters.
